This acacia fell in a Sacramento neighborhood. We drove up, got it off the driveway, cleaned everything up, and milled it, then made this board from it in our Paso Robles shop.
Acacia is one of the oldest woods people have worked. It goes as far back as the Bible, where the Ark of the Covenant was built from it. Acacia trees big enough to mill aren't common, which makes a board like this special.
The color is what makes it. Two planks of warm, reddish-brown acacia with golden streaks sit on either side of a narrow river of smoky gray epoxy, with a strip of pale cream sapwood along each bank. A few natural checks run with the grain, filled dark so the surface stays smooth. Our tree emblem is laser-engraved in the lower corner.
It's finished with Butcher Block Revival, the same oil we recommend for keeping it up. There's only one board like this. It's made for serving, so keep the knives on a cutting board.
